To update about Spring Break.
20 03 2009Currently Listening to: Jonathan Larson/RENT/Rosario Dawson + Adam Pascal – Another Day
So, a lot has gone on. I picked up the golf sticks for the first time in like 9 months and went to the range and did pretty well. I got to meet some people, which was fun. Still, I’m always going to be an outsider here at SM cause I left after my freshman year, and sometime I just miss hanging out with some Milton people, they all seem to be on the east coast, it’s kind of sad.
I also started reading Asian American X and it’s really motivating. I’m applying for APAM Head Mentor (I haven’t made my final decision yet, but I have the application done) and I found some good stories for group discussions. The more I think about Asian American issues at CMC, the less competent APAM looks because it isn’t an adequate venue for such discussions. I really want to see if I can jumpstart a new movement towards developing an Asian American social program at CMC. I think the problem is that a) it failed like 3 years ago, but also b) there isn’t enough interest because people care too much about other things, which is fair. I’ll see how things go, perhaps next year.
Killzone 2 is great, but to save some money, I returned it with no dent to my wallet. Great great used game program Gamespot/EB games has. I’ll probably get it again over the summer, the online compenent is RIDICULOUSLY FUN!
Also, I’ve only watched like two or three musicals in my life, the Lion King (professionally done), A Chorus Line (Milton), Wiz (SM) but I don’t remember any of them, even though the last two I watched like 3/4 years ago. I really wanted to watch Rent, which closed last September, and I didn’t want to watch the movie because it apparently didn’t do the musical justice. The DVD for the last Rent Broadway show is out, kind of, and so I watched it and I’m obsessed/sad I didn’t get to see it live. I’m even more sad that I didn’t get to see it with the original cast. Even more so, I dled the Rent Movie Soundtrack and am obsessed with Rosario Dawson’s voice. Oh. And I’m obsessed I didn’t get to see NPH as Mark. Even though he parodied it in SNL. NPH rules.
My bracket is doomed, don’t even talk to me about NCAA BBall anymore.

To maim Michael Dunleavy.
11 03 2009Currently Listening to: Consequence ft. Kanye West – Don’t Forget ‘Em
Da dumm. da dumm dumm.. ooohh oohhh… Don’t forget em.. don’t don’t forget em. This song is so catchy. I forgot all about it.
Manu won today. Yeah. The two headers were BEAUUUTIFULLL. Hopefully another double.. or dare I say it? no I won’t say it. I don’t want to jinx it… persuades Ronny to stay.
Two nights ago, the Clippers blew a double digit lead to Lebron. Here’s the DL by the Sports Guy Bill Simmons, a writer I admire but believe is sometimes overzealous. Still, after reading that you have to come to one conclusion. SHANK. DUNLEAVY. Cheers to me completely losing faith in the Clippers and throwing away my fandom because I honestly will suffocate if I have to put on this brown paper bag for another year. That Lakers gold is so pretty… oooohhhh.
I love his response at the end of that air ball.
So here’s what I see for the Clippers. You get the number 2 or 3 pick in the draft (because lets be honest, the worst team never gets the number 1 pick… Here’s hoping the Raptors get it.)
There are two players you have to trade. 1) Baron Davis 2) Marcus Camby because you can’t resign the latter and the first one blows in your system. And some team probably LOVES that contract because it expires right before 2010. Right? So you draft Ricky Rubio. You have your top three consolidated, with a line up of Eric Gordan (who everyone loves), the new Pistol Pete, and Al Thorton. Zach Randolph and Chris Kaman downlow are okay, but ehh.. I don’t know who you would get back though. I think Jermaine/Toronto might be down for moving if you give them Camby. Davis for Maggette sounds good (lol. I’m pulling shit out of my ass)
Here’s what will probably happen. You keep everyone, you draft Ricky only for him to laugh and be like. “dood I’m not touching your team with at ten foot pole, COMO ESTA ESPANA, MI AMOR!!!.” Without Rubio, you resign Shaun Livingston “the next Magic Johnson”, who breaks his leg three weeks into the season. Camby leaves, you sit around in 2010 when everyone else is signing Chris Bosh or Dwayne Wade. Attendance drops to an all time low, and Donald Sterling’s not willing to spend money to better it. Baron Davis becomes Starbury 2.0, no one touches him because he’s not getting any younger. Eric Gordan cries himself to sleep, gains 20 pounds and fades when he could be the next Mo Williams in any other team in the league (yeah, even the Grizz), and the only highlight in your system is Al Thorton, who by himself still only get 17 8 a game because he needs a good pg to excel. Zach Randolph gives you 21 and 10, but who cares, its not flashy and he has a 3 pt % floating at 15, throwing airballs at the end of every other game. Oh yeah, Chris Kaman, who you’re paying 11 mil by this point, is giving you 8 and 8 a night for 40 games a year. Clippers become the first team that goes 10-72 in history.
Yup, I still have a chinese midterm tomorrow that I have hardly studied for.

To compile a to do list for Spring Break.
9 03 2009Currently Listening to: N*E*R*D – She Wants to Move
This is what I want to do, but probably won’t be able to do, over the week or so of spring break.
Re-read John Rawls’ A Theory of Justice (It’s been like 3-4 years… I’ll probably have a better understanding of it now)
Read Amitai Etzioni’s The New Golden Rule, Jeff Chang’s Can’t Stop Won’t Stop, Asian American X.
Re-watch Crash and American History X (I think I’ll do that tonight, while writing my own history paper.)
Go work/intern at CMG/FM.
Play Killzone 1 and 2. (I think the first game blows chunks, but I’m playing through it because of a potential connection in the story.)
Find time to watch Watchmen, even though I hear terrible things about it.
Hang out with friends.
TIME TO VISIT THE LOCAL BOOKSTORE!

To update y’all on the Dartmouth situation.
8 03 2009Currently Listening to: Scott Matelic – To Impress the Empress
So I suck at grammar. I have to edit my papers a billion times, always forget my megablunders, and am just horrible at writing. So I constantly re-read my posts… worrying that I have some grammatical mistake here or there.
I was just re-reading the last post and re-visited the IVYGATE link and saw that the author was this man

Tommy Brothers Dartmouth Class of ‘11
I’m debating whether or not I overstepped some boundaries by posting his picture, but whatever, anybody with facebook can find this by just searching “Tommy Brothers,” which is what I did. I mean, I won’t even comment on what that picture means to me and what kind of person I judge dear Tommy to be. Tommy, if you manage to read this, props for coming out and showing just who was behind your ridiculous pseudonym.
He issued an apology which can be here. Eh. I’ll take it. I’m not one to hold grudges.
Btw. Yan at 8Asians.com might, maintaining that Dartmouth is “still very much a bastion of white elitism, no matter what they want you to believe” a bit harsh considering… well they just chose an Asian American to be president.
Anyway, check out the post here. I don’t necessarily agree with it, but its good to share.
Also, Kyle Kinneberg and David Daleiden have been banned from the campus of Pomona College for an incident you can find specifics about here. I think this will be settled before break, otherwise it’ll fester and draw too much unwanted attention for both parties.
BTW. don’t look at my posts in the Facebook group, I found two grammar mistakes already. I suck at life. Oh yeah. I’m going to post my name at the bottom of blog posts now cause I figure some people might link this from some place besides Facebook and not know who I am. Another update soon to come.

To continue to be hopeful.
1 03 2009Currently Listening to: Far*East Movement – Girls on the Dance Floor
I feel bad for not posting for an entire week/I just want this stuff to be out there etc.
BTW. This track is FIRE. I mean Talib Kweli remixed it.. it’s rocking everywhere at clubs, radio stations, and the web world. Everyone should catch onto FM before they get big.
Anyway, I just saw this pic of Prez Barry visiting the Wizards to watch his Chi-Town Bulls play get wrecked.

I don’t know why but I love it. For some reason it makes me forget about all the headache the American government spews out of its partisan whiny ass. So I thought I’d share.
Speaking of politics and Asian Americans, I’m really excited to see how Gary Locke does in his new position, and if the Republican party can still save Bobby Jindal as it’s savior. I might not agree with Jindal and his policies, but a speech should not end your political career. Even if it does remind me of my dear calc teacher Professor Peterson and the way she treats her students. WE. ARE. NOT. FIVE. YEAR. OLDS. thanks.
To play off this hopeful thing, I also had trouble sleeping last night. I crashed at about 9:30 right after the game because I woke up so early for the conference and slept so late the night before. But, I couldn’t really sleep, plus I was having decently lucid dreams/mental projections. It ended in me waking up at 1:30 to play solitaire (btw, I got 5 digit scores once. beat that.) and Civilizations 4, crashing around 5:30 before waking up 6 hours later. I might have a sleeping disorder or something because this comes pretty regularly; sometimes at very inconvenient times. Anyway, back to the dreams part… not to reveal too much because I’d like to keep them relatively private: I have problems dealing with emotions and awkwardness. It resulted in me just getting really angry this last for about the first time in 4-5 months (something I used to do at a regular basis, especially at Milton because it was so frustrating). The dreams culminated in weird interactions with different people that I haven’t met in a long time or I had just met these last couple of days. I woke up thinking about it and I concluded that those actions, while seemingly realistic and normal, did not adequately portray what I would do or how I think I truly feel. It concluded in me being really confused but for some reason hopeful in my future in regards to these people? I mean I really don’t know. It’s quite weird and I don’t understand it enough to analyze it, let alone write about it.
Anyway, new How I Met Your Mother tomorrow night. I’m excited. you should be too… It’s my first time actually waiting for an episode to air. BTW, My “Legen – wait for it – dary” has become “Coooo”. Smack me if you hear me say either; I am not cool like Barney Stinson.

To be less embarrassed.
21 02 2009Currently Listening to: The Proclaimers – I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles)
There are three to four songs that are consistently getting playtime on my computer right now, that’s this classic hit (I WILL WALK 500 MILES!), the aforementioned Weepies ballad “Gotta Have You”, Bloc Party’s “This Modern Love”, and just because – The Weepies “Take It From Me”. It’s gotten so embarrassing that I’ve basically stopped scrobbling for my last.fm page
Three of these songs are in, you guessed it, How I Met Your Mother, of which I am now totally caught up. I think my view of the show, because I watched all of it in about 5 days, is really skewed. The general viewership is over Robin and Ted. I’m not even over Victoria and Ted, which means that I cannot even remotely accept Barney and Robin getting together, which is now becoming more and more likely if not inevitable.
Anyway, I’m heading into Kollaboration in a couple hours with a group of people from CMC and I’m really excited. I’ll update as soon as I get back if anything super special happens.
AND! Yesterday was my first day as an intern for CMG/FM. It was eventful, I didn’t have to do stupid stuff like get coffee or anything, and I really got a feel for how much work artists on the level of FM have to do in order to be remotely successful and maintain that success. Comparatively, FM is pretty popular to some of the other groups I know and if they have to do this much, how much do people barely on fringe have to do? It really makes you take a step back and look at how big the world is and how much hard work is necessary to truly change the world. Even better, Kevnish recognized me as I was stepping out, which was a cool moment cause I only met him for like five minutes beforehand. I was looking through all the stuff he did; he really seems to put in a LOT of effort and work into it. I’m thoroughly amazed and astonished at how close he is with his fanbase.
So, the lesson today is don’t be humliated but be humble. I’m hoping to turn on my scrobble as soon as I get the courage to (I am a coward /weep). Even if you are at the top of your world, make sure you look up to see that you can reach even farther, and better yet, pull those who are under you up.
